Got Starlings?

As we head towards spring, we may start to see large flocks of hungry European Starlings, Common Grackles and/or Red-winged Blackbirds arriving at our bird feeders. These birds are striking when solo, but when they arrive in huge flocks, it's like bird feeder armageddon 🤯.

                                                                          Common Grackle

We can help! There are some easy strategies to keep the large flocks at bay, while still enjoying your backyard birds:

1️⃣ - first, try Safflower Seed. The hard bitter shell is more challenging for these birds to open and can deter them from congregating at your feeders. There can be a short adjustment period for your regular birds when changing food (please be patient!), but most birds will eat safflower. Cardinals and Rose-breasted Grosbeak especially like safflower!

2️⃣ - if you prefer to keep feeding your birds' their favorite No-mess Seed Blend, many feeders can be enclosed in a cage that allows the smaller birds in and keeps the larger birds out.

3️⃣ - our multi-functional feeders are also super for deterring larger birds. The squirrel-proof Eliminator or the Seed Cylinder Feeder with Cage are two great options to keep flocking birds out.
