🍊That first flash of orange. Baltimore Orioles will be arriving in our area soon. Our oranges are out and we're on the lookout.
- Orioles typically arrive in late April - early May in our area
- They are insect-eaters who also like oranges, jelly, seed and suet
- From late May through June orioles will be tending to their nests, reducing feeder activity and sightings. Activity picks back up in mid-July when their broods have left the nest and parents and fledglings are out and about
Tips to attract orioles:
✴️ Offer favorites like orange halves, organic grape jelly and SuperSuet; 🚫 NO high fructose corn syrup.
✴️ Place fruit feeders on a pole, separate from your other bird feeders, if possible.
✴️ Place feeder in an easy-to-spot place; birds find their food by sight.
✴️ Omit pesticides from your landscape; while it's helpful to provide fruit, orioles count on insects for their protein.
✴️ Set out a bird bath; all birds can benefit from an easy and clean water source.
